In a conversation with a colleague today, I heard that some people are afraid to stay in touch with their former colleagues who have been made redundant... as if doing this would jeopardise their own job security.
People! you can’t catch redundancy... it’s not a virus.
You can however be kind to those who are now feeling completely debilitated, uncertain and suddenly disconnected from what they knew as normal.
A phone call is best, an email is good, Zooming/Facetime/Messenger works and a text message– even if it’s an encouraging emoji – will do just fine.
Remember, these former colleagues will one day again be in a position of influence and they will remember those who stayed in touch with them and were supportive.
So... reach out, do something that lifts someone up... and you might just feel good in the process. Don't you think?
